Three days after issuing an advisory to the American citizens warning them of open manholes during the monsoons, the US Consulate on Thursday sent a letter of apology to the Mumbai civic chief. "The Consulate has written a letter to the municipal commissioner apologizing for the advisory which was received," additional municipal commissioner RA Rajeev told PTI. The warden advisory on June nine by the American citizens’ service unit on the Consulate General of UnitedStates of America website advised its citizens in Mumbai to beware of open manholes without warning signs, non-existent sidewalks, and flooded streets.
This was one and another one was Scarlette Keeling case. Is this not the time to wake up?? From India, The Educational Hub of the world, known for Taksh shila and Nalanda; being known as “Sone ki Chidia” for decades, Land of Gautam, Nanak and Budhdha, this is what we became. Earlier world was looking up to us and India was the dream destination for everyone for all the obvious reasons, but now warnings are being issued for those who are visiting India. What we see in Mumbai, Kolkata, and Hyderabad etc. is the outcome of uncontrolled and unplanned growth. Making attempts for growth and development is one very good thing to do but should it not follow some amount of initial and continual analysis of the resources available, should the authorities not continuously answer the question “Is this not the limit for this city?” People keep coming to the place where they hope that they can earn bread for them and for there family, initially everything goes as per the plan but in due course of time there is no land available for staying, there is no food to eat and there is no water to drink, or if it is then it is way too expensive to afford, which then result in increased crime. Also for the authorities it becomes very difficult to control/keep a check on crowd in city. Hours or traffic jams, bomb explosions, and other mishaps are the result of this. Developing a nation does not mean to develop a couple of cities and make them the place where some earn lakhs and crores in a year. Development also means to provide them with proper infrastructure, pollution free and clean environment, safe society and opportunities for proper physical and mental growth. India still has a lot in store for the world that is why people are still coming here, but being the educated and alert citizens is it not our responsibility to treasure what we have and proudly preserve it. Should we not take this development to different parts of the nation and help in making it a developed nation rather than a country of four or five developed cities?
